I am working on a capita selecta dealing with metabolic profiling in
plasma
or whole blood for animal species and man. Browsing the www I see most
of
the papers dealing with the human metabolism use plasma. However I
could
imaging that metabolic profiling in whole blood would reflect the
metabolic
profile much better. I am curious to know what kind of reasons are
used to
select plasma or whole blood for metabolic profing. Literature refrences
on this would be helpful as well.
Thanks in advance

I would look at the blood to plasma ratios, if the the drug favors
plasma then develop an assay for parent and metabolite in plasma,
conversely if the compound favors blood then develop an assay for
blood. If the ratio is one to one then makes no difference.
