I am using 0.1% sodium metabisulfite in a sample that needs to be
separated by C18 column. I have consistently seen that after sodium
metabisulfite sample column losses resolution. Washing the column with
various solvents does not help. Did anyone else experience similar
problem?
Any suggestion to avoid the problem or any other comments would be
appreciated.
Thanks

You have two choices to make either you substitute sodium
metabisulfite with another chemical or change the column to another
brand from probably a different vendor.
Different columns perform differently.
Advice is on the assumption that your column is not too old to be
discarded.

Bharat,
I am just wondering about the use of sodium metabisulphite in your
sample.
Can you please let me know if your sample yields to oxidation so easily?
Thanks.

Hi Sidney
Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried column from 2 different vendors,
and both seems to get affected. But it's true, one is little better than
other.
