Hi,
1)What is the major route of elimination of Levofloxacin.
2)Does Probenecid inhibits the elimination of Levofloxacin.
Any information would be of great help.
Thanks
Sandeep

The answer is:
renal ( > 85 % ) and probenecid sensitive ( Cl ren down from 120 to 77,
half-life up from 8.3 to 11 hrs. )

Sandeep,
The major route of elimination of levofloxacin is via the
kidney by glomerular filtration and proximal tubular secretion.
Probenecid and cimetidine have been reported to inhibit the
tubular secretion of levofloxacin by about 35% and 24%, respectively.

Dear Mr or Mrs Sandeep,
Concerning your question about elimination of levofloxacin and
interactions with probenecid I think I can help you.
79.6% of an oral administrated dose of levofloxacin is excreted
unchanged , 1.75% as desmethyl levofloxacin and 1.63% as levofloxacin
N-oxide in human urine within 24 hours.
Coadministration of probenecid results in increase of in mean t1/2
of levofloxacin by approximately 30% (from 8.3 to 11 hours) and in
mean AUC by 38% (from 53 to 74 mg*h/l). So probenecid inhibits the
elimination of levofloxacin.
