I have a water insoluble drug. I do not want to use
DMSO for possible ferrying. So I tried to solubilize
the drug in ethanol (10%), propylene glycol (70%) and
water (20%). this gives a clear solution. As far as
my knowledge is concerned, I think about 50% of
Propylene glycol can be used in intra venous
formulations. higher concentration causes heamolysis.
Can anybody suggest if above formulation is a good
alternative to DMSO (10% as suggested by Swaroop) in
oral formulations.

A good solution for lipophyllic drugs, as used by ICI in its original
propofol formulation was Intralipid 10%, a principally soy oil solution.
They now use an EDTA solution, which is FDA licensed and avoids any toxic
stuff.
