All,
Can someone tell me the GI transit time in rats (F344). I remember an
article of Bungay et al. (1981) mentioning it. Unfortunately, I don't
have
access to that article at this time and will take several days before I
will
be able to get it.
Thanks.

Dear Shakil,
Hereby a copy of a report, written app. 3 years ago by some members of
my
group [The attachment has been removed. You might visit the website or
ask the author directly for a copy - db]. I hope it contains the
information you are looking for. Additional
data and comments, also from others, would still be welcome. Hardcopies
of
this report can be obtained via the website of our institute:
www.rivm.nl
Recently we have also written a report on pharmacokinetics of ingested
xenobiotics in children (report 623860 011, available via
loeckie.de.zwart.-a-.rivm.nl or via our website www.rivm.nl). In this report
anatomical and physiological differences between children and adults are
discussed. Moreover, the possible role of PBPK-modelling in pediatrics,
both for medicines as well as for other xenobiotics, is discussed. We
are
very much interested how others deal with the topic of risk assessment
in
children. Comments, ideas etc. are welcome!!
Kind regards,

These are the transit times I use. Note that the transit time is
shorter for animals fed a high roughage diet.
Stomach about 2 hrs. (Brown et al, Gut, 28, 849-854, 1987; Enck et al.
Gut, 30, 455-459, 1989).
Orocecal about 130 min. (Enck et al. Gut, 30, 455-459, 1989).
Colon 15.5 hr (Enck et al. Gut, 30, 455-459, 1989).
Bill Roth (FDA) has published a full sequence of transit times in the
rat.
