Hi:
Does anyone knows of a experimental design program which allow for
determination of a robust formulation with the minimum number of
formulation attempts.
Thanks

You first have to determine the key input parameters of your
formulations, the responses and the constraints. The type of
experimental design you will use, really depends on the numbers of
parameters and the type of constraints. If you want example of
experimental design adapted to formulation processes you can read the
following articles and other studies by the same team.
Geze A, Venier-Julienne MC, Mathieu D, Filmon R, Phan-Tan-Luu R, Benoit
JP. Int J Pharm. 1999 Feb 15;178(2):257-68.
Heurtault B, Saulnier P, Pech B, Venier-Julienne MC, Proust JE,
Phan-Tan-Luu R, Benoit JP. Eur J Pharm Sci. 2003 Jan;18(1):55-61.
I hope this will help you

I used to use Echip software(ECHIP, Echip, Inc, Hockessin, DE,
www.echip.com, tel: 302-239-5429). The software uses factorial expt
design
that enables the influence of individual variables (main effects) and
theit
interactions to be evaluated simultaneously while using a minimun
number of
experiments.
I hope this helps.

to my knowledge they have been working in a system
that could be applied for the tablet formulation
optimization problem

In fact you can use many softwares for experimental design. A famous
statistical software called Minitab (http://www.minitab.com ) has a
module for experimental design, there are more specific sofware such as
Nemrod develloped in Marseilles, France
http://www.nemrodw.com/html/logiciel.htm , this software exists in
english.
We have used simplex in my lab to get faster to the right experimental
area... it doesn't work in every cases but it can dramatically lower
the number of experiments.
