Dear all,
Can anyone help me in finding a source for supplying human skin for
metabolism studies in vitro?
Thanks,
John

John,
The UK Human Tissue Bank can supply you with fresh and frozen skin.
Some is
plastic surgery excess, some is variable thickness, they can obtain
full-thickness.

To C. Chesne,
Virology information is available for most donations, it depends on
the source.
Current donations of full thickness skin are obtained from Brain stem
dead
cadaveric donors and come with full virology screening.
Current donations for partial thickness skin may come with full virology
information depending
on the nature of the donor e.g. would be provided if the donor had also
donated
heart valves or cornea.
Hope this answers your question

Hello all,
I am planning metabolic stability studies on an experimental drug
candidate.
The target route is dermal administration. Besides doing the usual liver
microsomes and hepatocytes, is it possible to also study metabolism in
skin?
Is there any regulatory information about metabolic systems for dermal
targeted drugs? Are there skin cell culture systems available that have
been
used for metabolism studies? Any information will be appreciated.

Dear Karsten,
you can use skin fibroblasts/keratinocytes which have
been used for drug metabolism. They are commercially
available. You can even grow fibroblasts from skin
biopsy.Primary fibroblasts can grow upto 25-30
passages.

Dear Karsten,
Human dermal fibroblasts culture could be a good model for metabolism
studies in the skin and the expression of some enzymes can also be
induced
as you can find in the publication below.
