I am looking for some information on the GI transit times in various
species. I thought that there was a publication on the FDA website
however I am not able to locate it.
Thanks

I do not have the paper in hand now but I think that A useful paper for
you might be 'Physiological parameters in laboratory animals and
humans' by Davies and Morris 1993 Pharmaceutical research vol. 10 No 7
p1093 to 1095. it provides organ weights, organ volumes, blood flow
though various organs and other various measurements in mouse, rat,
rabbit, monkey, dog and human and I do believe they discuss GI transit
time.

You may find some information in a report we have written some years
ago:
http://www.rivm.nl/bibliotheek/rapporten/623860010.pdf
[6.3 MB - 100 pages - db]
The report discusses physiological parameters for the GI tract, liver,
and
kidney in various species frequently used in pharmacokinetic and
toxicity
studies.
I take the opportunity to return a question to the group:
We have been thinking about rewriting this report, in combination with
additional data we have gathered over the last years, in the form of an
article. Do you think it will be worth the effort to do this? What
would be
the most appropriate journal (e.g. Journal of Toxicology and Applied
Pharmacology?).
I would appreciate your comments very much.
Kind regards,

Reported values for gastrointestinal transit times are:
- Half gastric empting time: 4-5 min in dog and 8-15 min in man;
- Intestinal transit time in small intestine: 111 min in dog and 238 in
man (other reported values 275, >600 min in man);
- Whole intestine transit time: 770 min in dog and 2350 min in man
(other reported values are 360-480 min in dog and 1200-1800 min in
