Ester prodrugs are known to get hydrolyzed to their
acids under non-enzymatic or physiological conditions.
Is this a common feature with most esters? Any
references will be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Ananda

Dear Ananda,
Enzymatic hydrolysis ester prodrugs is a common phenomenon that is
observed. Generally, plasma contains high percentage of esterases
which act on the prodrug and results in the cleavage.
