Many studies have documented an in-vitro binding of Phenytoin to
enteral nutrition protein (soy, caseinates). In vivo controlled studies
have failed to support this, but many case reports are about which have
significant reduction of blood level when the enteral nutrition was
co-administered directly with the phenytoin. I have been studying the
dependency of pH to the binding of the protein in a enteral diet.
My question is - if the phenytoin is bound to the protein - will it get
absorbed to the same degree when the protein is absorbed? In other
words - Does it make any difference if the phenytoin is bound or not in
the gastrointestinal tract?
