Dear all,
I am planning a PK study in rats of a NCE. I am still dubious
regarding some key aspects:
1) the maximum amount of blood that can be extracted in the 24h
2) the preferred site of extraction
3) the need to replace the extracted volume with saline
I had a look at some of the previous answers, but I was wondering if
generally accepted criteria exist on the matter, which I am not aware
of.
Thank you very much for your patience.

Dear Federica,
I use to extract blood from the rat jugular vein previously
incannulated and eparinized. Each extraction is replaced with the
same volume of saline solution and the maximum blood volume extracted
is 1.5 mL in the 24h (rat b.w. 250g).
I suggest you to see this article: J. Appl. Toxicol. 21 (2001) 15-23.

Ciao
Marco
