dear all,
i would like to know if BCRP (breast cancer resistance protein) is
expressed in the rabbit intestine. any references pls
thanking you

Hi Mallikarjun,
P-gp, MRP2 and BCRP are considered to be main ABC efflux transporter
proteins which are involved handling of drug and toxins. The tissue
distribution of these transporters varies from species to species. In
general it is as follows:
P-gp: Protein levels of P-gp in humans as well as in rodents have been
found in brain, Kidney, testes, liver, jejunum, colon and lung; it
increase progressively from stomach to colon. There is no great
species difference in the tissue distribution of P-gp.
MRP2: In contrast to P-gp it shows high level of species difference.
For example; there is high level of expression in rabbit's kidney and
intestine as compare to liver. Where as in mice highest level was
detected in intestine followed by liver and kidney.
BCRP: BCRP is also known as placenta-specific ATP-binding cassette
(ABCP) gene because of its higher expression at the placenta. Although
BCRP and P-gp have overlapping tissue distribution, its main
localization is in placenta and brain.
In nut shell although BCRP is present in small intestine of rabbit but
the expression of MRP 2 will supplant the expression of BCRP. There is
very little data available in literature to comment of very specific
role of BCRP in drug disposition but one thing is pretty sure is that
its list of substrate is increasing continuously.
For your convenience here with I am forwarding you some of reference
about transporter expression:
1.) Expression and immunolocalization of multidrug resistance
protein 2 in rabbit small intestine European Journal of Pharmacology
400 _2000. 195-198
2.) Expression and function of efflux drug transporters in the
intestine. Pharmacology & Therapeutics 109 (2006) 137 - 161.

Dear Dr. Rhishikesh Thakare,
thank you very much for your reply. i would like to know if this
sentence is published in some journal or your personal experience in
working with rabbits.
In nut shell although BCRP is present in small intestine of rabbit but
the expression of MRP 2 will supplant the expression of BCRP.
Thanking you
