Hi Everybody
We recently started to plan a first monkey test (rehsus monkeys), and
we face a problem.
We plan to give orally an enteric coated capsule which will open after
the stomach. However, i tried to find data on the time it takes to the
pill to pass the stomach in starved monkeys and the data is not clear.
I found that it might be anyware between 30min up to 4 hours. First,
does anyone has any data about this issue?
Second, do you know on a simple marker to know exactly when the
capsule passes the stomach? I would hate to miss the peak time in the
PK... and if i will take blood only every 30min, most likely i will
miss the peak.
I would like to hear your comments and ideas.

Hi Eran, there's a really neat technology out now that may help you:
http://www.israel21c.org/bin/en.jsp?enDisplay=view&enDispWhat=object&enZone=health&enDispWho=Articles%5El15&enPage=BlankPage
This technology was developed in Isreal. There's no guarantees that
the camera pill will leave the stomach at the same time as your EC
formulation, but it will give you a far more accurate idea than a
mathematical model or previous studies. Perhaps you can collaborate
with someone who has the system?
Best,
-Dave

Hi Eran,
To monitor the GI transit of your formulation in 3-D, you might wish
to consider "Magnetic Marker Monitoring" - a novel technology offered
by Henning Blume and colleagues at SocraTec in Germany.

gastrointestinal transit of a magnetically marked capsule". J Pharm
