Dear collegues,
does anyone know if it possible to buy
blood or a synthetic blood substitute for in-vitro experiments about
drug stability in this biological medium.
Thank you very much in advance.

Dear Sandro,
I do not know the situation in Italy. In the US you can usually get
blood from blood banks or related organizations. It is often
important to get fresh (never frozen, not expired) blood, so you can
also usually arrange in advance to get the blood the day of your
experiment. Be sure to specify the type of anticoagulant that you
want, as it can also affect stability of a drug.

Sandro: In the US there is Biological Specialty (see link below). So
if you are considering buying from a US supplier then they come to mind.

I am not sure in Europe but an excellent provider in the US is
Bioreclamation. I believe you would need to set up import/export
documents,
they might be able to help you with those. They might also identify a
European source which would simplify matters for you.

Dear Sando,
I have bought fresh (5 degrees Celsius, never frozen), blood on
several occasions for in vitro work. I was using dog, monkey, rat and
human and could specify the anticoagulant and any other special
instructions. The company told me with the anticoagulant that I chose
I could expect the blood to stay fresh enough to work with for about a
week. Other anticoagulants, I was told, can extend this time period.
The company I used was Bioreclamation in New York state. I thought
they did a great job.

If you are looking for someplace closer to home, I would suggest
checking with the same facilities that you might use to supply animals
for an in vivo experiment.
Good luck!

Hello,
You might try the Green Cross in Japan - years ago I got some of their
samples of artificial blood free of charge.
