TopFit

I would like to add an interesting PK program to your list. This program is called TopFit. It was developed by a consortium of German pharmaceutical companies, and is being made available at a reasonable cost to increase utilization of this software. Their primary goal was to have the program recognized and used by the academic and regulatory community. We have described the program in a recent publication:

Tanswell P and Koup J: TopFit: a PC-based pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic data analysis program. 1993, Int. J. Clin. Pharmacol. Ther. Tox. 31(10)514-420.

An excellent users manual (and unprotected copies of compiled code) are available for about $160 from Gustav Fischer (VCH Publishers, Inc.) 220 East 23rd Street, Suite 909, New York, NY, 10010-460. Phone : (212)-532-4220.

This program provides the ability to conduct non-compartmental as well as model based assessment of PK/PD data on a subject by subject basis. It does not support ELS estimation, or MEM approaches to data analysis. It is very user friendly with excellent graphical capabilities, and has been documented thoroughly. While the price is very reasonable, as far as I can tell there is vitrually no user support available. The user's manual describes the program in sufficient detail to allow the user to find their way through most applications, but when problems do arise it will be difficult to obtain answers. The authors addresses are provided, but quick answers will be difficult to obtain. Still, given the modest price, we have found this program a useful addition to our PK library.

I hope that this information is useful to participants in your network.
