The National Committeee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) is
updating our guidelines for In-Vitro Diagnistic manufacturers to test
their analytical methods for posible drug interference. We need some
assistance from someone knowledgeable in pharmaceutials to complete the
project. NCCLS is a standards organization affliated with the American
National Standards Institute (ANSI).
The subcommittee that I chair has developed testing guidelines and is
planning to provide a list of substances that should be tested for
possible interference - i.e., those that most commonly occur in blood
specimens. We are looking for a list of most commonly used (or
purchased) OTC drugs (similar to the "Top 200 Prescription Drugs"
published annually by American Druggist). Can you identify such a list,
or suggest someone I might contact who might know of one? If none
exists, can you suggest an approach NCCLS might take to
identify/prioitize the compunds an IVD manufacturer must evaluate before
placing a new clinical laboratory method on the market? Our goal is to
standardize interference testing for the benefit of the clinical
laboratories who use the products, and any help you can give us will be
greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
