Hello everybody,]
The Dept. of Pharmacokinetics and Drug Delivery is looking for a new
textbook in pharmacokinetics for Pharmacy students. At the moment we
are using "clinical pharmacokinetics" by Rowland and Tozer.
Does anybody have any suggestion concerning other
textbooks? Let us know!

Try the "Practical Pharmacokinetics" it is an interactive multimedia
program for the learning and the practice of clinical pharmacokinetics.
The program is the winner of the 1996 American Association of Colleges
of Pharmacy (AACP)-Innovation in teaching competition. The textbook
contains >70% of the program materials. The program also offers an
internet access to many pk sites from within Windows. You may download a
copy of the entire program from

I highly recommend "Applied Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics" by
L.Shargel and A. Yu. Published by Appleton & Lange (Norton and Connecticut).
In my opinion this is the best pharmacokinetics textbook available.

This is an excellent book. I own a copy and used it to learn all of my
pk in pharmacy school.

I agree on this choice for a PK book. My copy of Applied
Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics by Shargel and Yu has many a
dog eared page!

the class not only to his book but also to Michael E. Winter's Basic Clinical
Pharmacokinetics. Winter's book could be considered a "primer" for beginning
students. I thought it was easier to understand than Shargel & Yu.
As the student advances, Applied Pharmacokinetics: Principles of Therapeutic
Drug Monitoring, edited by Evans, Schentag and Jusko would be my pick of
texts. Despite "heavy-duty" formulas, the book is well presented in terms of
special pk considerations of the elderly, children, and the obese. The book
also contains great chapters on vancomycin, aminoglycoside and lithium as well
as chapters on pharmacodynamics and influences of liver/renal dysfunction.
Sincerely,
