Hi all!
I was just wondering if anyone on this list has experience working with
tertiary amine N-oxide drug metabolites. I would like to know any practical
stability problems that may be encountered during the handling of their pure
standards, aqueous solutions and also extracted and non-extracted
biological samples (plasma, urine etc).

Sanjeev,
Tertiary amines are considered to be pretty stable in solutions. When you
have no clue regarding the solution stability of metabolites and any
substance in general it is customary to add ascorbic acid in sample
collection tubes. Hope this answer your question.

I did some work with N->O's in grad school. They are much more stable than
the parent amines, since they are already oxidized. The parent amines are
also much more hygroscopic. Perhaps contacting my thesis advisor Mike
Duffel at Iowa would also help you.
