Hello again:
I want to thank everyone who responded to my first question
concerning first-order one compartment model equations. All the messages I
received were very helpful.
I would like to ask another question. When performing an initial
Vancomycin PK consult w/o levels - are there literature citings listing the
various Vd's suggested for use w/Vancomycin (in L/Kg body wt.) related to
the patient's disease state (I have an article for this in regard to
aminoglycoside).
Again, thanks in advance for any help....

Goodman & Gilman's "Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics" has a
pharmacokinetic table that lists the volume of distribution as 0.9 L/Kg.
This is what many people use. The table cites the primary source where the
study was done. This study was conducted in healthy male volunteers. We
believe that is an over-estimation of Vd in most patients, so we conducted a
study in burn and non-burn surgical patients and found that the Vd was 0.7
L/Kg in both groups. That is value that we are currently using in
prospective calculations. The study results will be published sometime in
the near future (hopefully).
