Colleagues:
Are resolutions of AST-ALT, LDH and CKMB elevations necessary or of
value in preclinical testing? For example LDH elevations may be
resolved with electrophoretic/ immuno techniques to identify tissues
demonstrating toxicity before or even in the absence of clear histopath
changes. Similarly MB elevations can be resolved to identify skeletal,
brain or cardiac toxicity and ALT-AST ratios(De Ritis) can be
used-without further testing to help identify tissue damage. These
changes often precede lasting histological changes and would be of
value in following the course of treatment in clinical trials. I would
like your opinion(s) as to the value of offering these tests reflexively
when LDH, MB or AST-ALT levels are elevaated.
Thank you
